Balmore Golf Club

Balmore Golf Club was established in 1907 on land that was once part of the Glenorchard Estate near Torrance, to the north of Glasgow. The course was laid out by Harry Vardon, winner of the Open Championship a record six times, and the parkland routing makes use of the estate's mature trees and open ground, which today supports a range of wildlife alongside the golf. Fairways run through wooded sections interspersed with wider, more exposed holes, and the greens are protected by bunkering typical of courses from this period. Among the par-3 holes, the 16th is regarded as the course's signature hole and is counted among the better short holes to be found in Scotland. The compact nature of the layout keeps the round moving at a steady pace, with the tree cover providing shelter and definition between holes. Set within East Dunbartonshire, the club sits a short distance from Glasgow while retaining a peaceful, rural setting shaped by its estate origins. More than a century after Vardon's design was completed, the course still follows much of its original routing across the Glenorchard ground.
