Cawder Golf Club

Cawder Golf Club is based in Bishopbriggs, a town on the northern edge of Glasgow's built-up area, in the belt of suburban growth that spread out from the city through the twentieth century along the road and rail lines towards Stirling. Bishopbriggs sits on slightly higher, more wooded ground than much of inner Glasgow, part of the softer countryside that begins where the city's tenements and industrial districts give way to the Campsie Fells further north. Glasgow itself, Scotland's largest city, developed around the Clyde and its shipbuilding and manufacturing industries, and the northern suburbs where Cawder sits grew largely as commuter areas once that industrial core began to contract in the twentieth century. The club's setting places it within easy reach of both the city centre and the more rural country towards Milngavie and the Campsies, a transition zone that is more wooded and undulating than the flatter ground closer to the Clyde. This part of Greater Glasgow remains one of the greener fringes of the conurbation.
