Barton-on-Sea Golf Club

🤍

Barton-on-Sea sits on low cliffs on the Hampshire coast, between Highcliffe, just across the county boundary in Dorset, and Milford-on-Sea to the west, on a stretch of shoreline known for its fossil-rich cliffs and ongoing coastal erosion. The BH postcode area here reflects the close pull of Bournemouth just along the coast, even though the town itself sits in Hampshire rather than Dorset, part of a stretch of the south coast where the historic county boundary runs close to the shore. This part of the Hampshire coast looks out across Christchurch Bay towards the Isle of Wight and the Needles, with the cliffs themselves a site of scientific interest for their exposed layers of clay and fossil beds dating back tens of millions of years. The area developed as a genteel seaside resort through the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, its clifftop position and sea views drawing residential and leisure development including this golf club. Barton-on-Sea today remains a quieter alternative to the larger resorts of Bournemouth and Christchurch nearby, with the coastal path along the cliff top a popular draw for walkers as well as golfers.
