Brampton Golf Club was founded in 1909 to a design by James Braid, one of the most prolific golf course architects of the early twentieth century. Golf World has referred to the course as 'the Jewel of Cumbria', a description reflected in its regional rankings, where the club has placed 4th among Cumbrian courses and 57th nationally among courses charging under £65 for a round, as well as 142nd across all of England in the same set of rankings. The course is arranged on either side of Tarn Road, with nine holes, including a par-3 opener, sitting on the clubhouse side and the remainder across the road, a layout that gives the round a natural break at the turn. Panoramic views are available from the clubhouse itself, taking in the surrounding Cumbrian countryside near Carlisle, and many members and visitors make use of this outlook before or after a round rather than only during play. Having been established for well over a century, Brampton has built a long-standing reputation within Cumbrian golf, reinforced by its recognition in national course rankings rather than resting solely on local reputation. The combination of Braid's design pedigree and its consistently high regional standing gives Brampton a stronger profile than many clubs of similar size in the county.
