Burgham Park Golf and Leisure Club

Burgham Park Golf and Leisure Club lies nine miles north of Morpeth, just off the A1, on parkland that stretches to 6,804 yards for a par of 72 across 18 holes. The course was laid out in 1994 by Mark James, a former Ryder Cup captain, in partnership with golf course designer Andrew Mair, and has had three decades since for its planted trees to mature and its fairways to settle. From parts of the course there are views west to the Simonside Hills and east towards the Northumberland coast, placing the club within the county's rolling inland landscape rather than close to the sea. As the name suggests, the club combines golf with a leisure side, and its clubhouse is a working part of the visit, offering food and drink to players once they come off the course. The par-72 layout runs across the full 18 holes, testing a range of playing abilities with the help of trees and turf that have matured since the 1994 design. Being just off a main road gives straightforward access from Morpeth and other nearby Northumberland towns, while the course itself stays within open countryside rather than close to a town centre.
