Crosland Heath Golf Club

Crosland Heath Golf Club lies on high ground south-west of Huddersfield, in the part of West Yorkshire where the Pennine foothills begin to rise toward the moorland proper. The course is laid out as heathland rather than parkland, with heather-lined fairways and open, exposed turf that owes more to the moor above than to the mill valleys below. Huddersfield grew up on the wool and textile trade, and the hills around it, including the ground the club occupies, were historically grazing and rough pasture rather than land suited to arable farming. That history shows in the terrain: thin soils, exposed rock in places, and wide views back down over the town and the Colne valley. Weather here tends to be more changeable than in the valley bottoms, with wind and rain sweeping in off the Pennines with little warning. The club's setting on the edge of the moor gives it a harder, more open character than the wooded courses found lower down around Huddersfield.
