Dewsbury District Golf Club

Dewsbury District Golf Club is set on hillside ground near Mirfield in West Yorkshire, above the Calder Valley that runs between Huddersfield and Wakefield. The course occupies moorland-edge terrain rather than the flatter valley floor, where the River Calder and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal run through what was once one of the country's most concentrated textile manufacturing districts. Mirfield sits roughly midway along that valley, a former mill town now largely residential, with the steep, wooded slopes typical of the area rising immediately behind it. From the higher parts of the course, the ground opens out to views across the valley, a common feature of hillside layouts in this part of Yorkshire. The Calder Valley's industrial past has left a landscape of former mill buildings, terraced housing and steep lanes alongside the more open moorland above, and the club's position on that upper ground gives it a different character from courses laid out on reclaimed valley-bottom land elsewhere in the district.
