The site occupies reclaimed land on the Loughor Estuary, where the river meets Carmarthen Bay, giving the surrounding area an open, low-lying character shaped by tidal water on three sides. Llanelli sits roughly midway along the South Wales coastline between Swansea and Carmarthen, with the Gower Peninsula's beaches a short drive away to the east across the Loughor Bridge. The wider Machynys estate combines housing, a hotel and golf facilities on what was previously industrial land connected to Llanelli's tinplate trade, one of several waterfront regeneration projects along this stretch of coast since the 1990s.
