Tiverton Golf Club

Tiverton sits on the River Exe in Mid Devon, a former wool town whose golf club lies close to the edges of the built-up area, within easy reach of the Grand Western Canal and the rolling farmland that spreads out towards Exmoor to the north and the Blackdown Hills to the east. The town grew wealthy on cloth manufacturing in earlier centuries and still carries much of that heritage in its street layout and surviving buildings, while the surrounding countryside is characterised by red Devon soil, hedgerowed lanes and gentle valleys carved by the Exe and its tributaries. Golf in this part of Devon typically makes use of that undulating terrain, with courses laid across pasture and parkland rather than open moor or coast. Tiverton's position gives members and visitors a base from which to explore both the county town of Exeter to the south and the wilder landscapes of Exmoor National Park within a short drive. The club forms part of a wider network of Devon courses that benefit from a relatively mild climate allowing play across most of the year, and from the county's reputation as one of England's more golf-rich rural areas. Local road links via the M5 corridor put Tiverton within reach of visiting golfers travelling from across the South West.
