West Cornwall Golf Club
West Cornwall Golf Club is set on the coast near St Ives, the fishing town turned artists' colony on Cornwall's northern shore, overlooking St Ives Bay and the Hayle estuary where the River Hayle meets the Atlantic. This stretch of coastline is defined by wide sandy beaches, dune systems and the branch railway line running from St Erth to St Ives along the shore, a route regularly ranked among the most scenic in Britain. The dunes and sandy, free-draining soils typical of this part of west Cornwall are the classic base for links golf, ground that drains quickly after rain and supports the fine fescue turf associated with seaside courses. St Ives sits near the far western tip of Cornwall, a peninsula shaped by the Atlantic on one side and the calmer waters of the bay on the other, giving courses in the area a markedly different character from the moorland golf found further inland.
