Avisford Park Golf Club
Arundel is a small town on the River Arun in the countryside below the South Downs, best known for its Norman castle and the cathedral that share the skyline above the river. Avisford Park Golf Club lies just outside the town, in the belt of countryside between the Downs and the coast where the land is a mix of parkland estates, farmland and woodland rather than open chalk hillside. The Arun valley here forms a natural gap through the South Downs, which has made the area a route corridor since Roman times, and the countryside around Arundel today is still dominated by large historic estates and their grounds. The town itself is small, with a population in the low thousands, and depends heavily on visitors drawn by the castle and the wetland centre on the river's edge rather than on golf. Chichester and Worthing are the nearest larger towns, both a short drive away along the coast, giving golfers based at Avisford Park easy access to the wider South Downs and its coastline.
