Didsbury Golf Club
Didsbury Golf Club is set at Northenden, on the southern side of Manchester where the city gives way to the Mersey valley and the flatter ground running towards Cheshire. The River Mersey itself forms the boundary here, looping through Northenden and the neighbouring districts of Wythenshawe and Didsbury before continuing west towards Stockport and beyond, and the valley floor it has carved out over centuries provides much of south Manchester's remaining open green space. Didsbury grew from a rural township into one of Manchester's more sought-after suburbs during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and the area around Northenden still carries some of that transition in its mix of Victorian villas, Mersey-side parkland and older field patterns. A course positioned on this stretch of the valley sits on the low, level ground typical of the Mersey floodplain, distinct from the higher Pennine country found elsewhere in Greater Manchester. Manchester Airport and the M60 orbital motorway are both close by, keeping the area well connected despite its riverside, semi-rural feel.
