Welton Manor Golf Centre

Welton Manor Golf Centre began as a farm diversification project on around 120 acres near Welton in Lincolnshire, developed by local farmer Charles Ottewell alongside his sons. The Lincolnshire setting places it in flat, arable farming country typical of the county, with the course laid out as parkland featuring tree-lined fairways, lakes and streams across the site rather than open exposed fenland. Welton itself is a village a few miles north-east of Lincoln, within the belt of villages that ring the cathedral city, giving the centre a location convenient for golfers based in and around Lincoln without being within the city itself. As a farm diversification, the club reflects a pattern common across eastern England, where agricultural landowners have converted acreage into golf facilities as farming income has become less reliable, often retaining hedgerows, ponds and drainage features from the original holding. That agricultural origin shapes the course's character, with the working landscape of Lincolnshire's arable belt visible around its boundaries rather than a purpose-built resort setting.
