Golf Courses Near London

The best-known golf near London lies south-west of the city. Sandy soil, pine, birch and heather run from Weybridge towards Sunningdale and on into Berkshire. Walton Heath, near Tadworth, has two courses by Herbert Fowler. The Old Course opened in 1904 and hosted the 1981 Ryder Cup and the 2023 AIG Women's Open. Sunningdale Golf Club has two heathland courses: the Old by Willie Park Jr., opened in 1901, and the New by Harry Colt, opened in 1923. Wentworth, at Virginia Water, hosts the BMW PGA Championship.

Woburn Golf Club has three courses on the Woburn Abbey estate in Bedfordshire. The Duke's opened in 1976, the Duchess in 1978 and the Marquess in 2000. The club has hosted the Women's British Open eleven times, most recently in 2019.

Kent has parkland in the Weald and links on the coast. Chart Hills, near Biddenden, was designed by Nick Faldo and opened in 1993. Knole Park, at Sevenoaks, is laid out inside a historic deer park. Much of this golf is reachable without a car. Virginia Water and Sunningdale stations lie on the line from London Waterloo towards Reading, close to Wentworth and Sunningdale. Tadworth is the nearest station for Walton Heath. By road, the M25 links most of the clubs above, so leave extra time at peak hours.

Many private clubs near London take visitors on set weekdays, and weekend tee times are often for members. Some also close to visitors on competition days.
